Speed boat tours to Sazan Island, Karaburun Peninsula & the legendary Pirate Cave
Durrës is the ideal starting point for exploring Albania's dramatic southern coastline. A scenic two-hour drive takes you to the port city of Vlorë, where you'll board a powerful speed boat and set off on one of the most unforgettable day trips in the Balkans.
Over 4-5 hours on the water, you'll visit three extraordinary destinations that most European tourists have never heard of: the abandoned Cold War military base on Sazan Island, the legendary pirate cave of Haxhi Ali (accessible only by boat), and the pristine swimming spots of the Karaburun Peninsula — 18 km of uninhabited wild coastline with water clarity that rivals the Caribbean.
Every boat trip includes hotel pickup from Durrës, comfortable transport, an experienced English-speaking skipper, all entrance fees, and life jackets. You just need to bring your swimsuit, sunscreen, and a sense of adventure — we handle the rest.

Each boat trip covers three extraordinary stops along Albania's southern Adriatic coast.
Stop 1 of 3Sazan Island is Albania's most mysterious destination — a former top-secret military base that was completely off-limits to civilians until recently. Located at the mouth of the Bay of Vlorë, this 5.7 km² island was a strategic Cold War outpost armed with chemical weapons and manned by thousands of soldiers.
Today, Sazan is slowly opening to tourists through licensed boat tours. Walk through abandoned barracks, explore underground tunnels built to withstand nuclear attacks, and visit the eerie remains of a military school frozen in time. After the historical tour, you'll swim at a pristine beach with water so clear it feels unreal — one of the most secluded swimming spots in the entire Adriatic.
Stop 2 of 3Haxhi Ali Cave (Shpella e Haxhi Aliut) is one of the most spectacular sea caves on the Albanian coast. Accessible only by boat, this massive grotto stretches 30 metres into the cliff face with a cathedral-like interior illuminated by the turquoise water reflecting sunlight off the limestone walls.
Legend has it that the Albanian pirate Haxhi Ali used this cave to hide treasure plundered from passing ships. Whether or not the treasure exists, the cave itself is the real gem. Your speedboat enters through the narrow mouth into a vast chamber where you can swim in water that glows an otherworldly shade of blue. The acoustics inside the cave create an unforgettable atmosphere — bring a waterproof camera.
Stop 3 of 3The Karaburun Peninsula is the largest peninsula in Albania, stretching 18 km into the Adriatic Sea. Almost entirely uninhabited, it's home to some of the most pristine beaches in the Mediterranean — accessible only by boat. The coastline alternates between dramatic cliffs, hidden coves, and beaches with water clarity that rivals the Maldives.
Your speed boat docks at Saint Basil's Bay (Gjiri i Shën Vasilit), a sheltered cove famous for Mirror Beach — named because the water is so still and clear it looks like a mirror. Spend time swimming, snorkelling over underwater rock formations, or simply sunbathing on the pebble beach. Many tours include a stop at a seaside restaurant in Vlorë or Radhimë on the return journey for fresh seafood and local wine.
